Regarding books in the Bible.

The Holy Bible Douay-Rheims Version Intro page. Only posting an excerpt,
Quote:
The Holy Bible Douay-Rheims Version

With Challoner Revisions 1749-52
1899 Edition of the John Murphy Company

IMPRIMATUR:
James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, September 1, 1899.

Pope Damasus assembled the first list of books of the Bible at the Roman Council in 382 A.D. He commissioned St. Jerome to translate the original Greek and Hebrew texts into Latin, which became known as the Latin Vulgate Bible and was declared by the Church to be the only authentic and official version, in 1546.

The DR New Testament was first published by the English College at Rheims in 1582 A.D. The DR Old Testament was first published by the English College at Douay in 1609 A.D. The first King James Version was not published until 1611. This online DRV contains all 73 books, including the seven Deutero-Canonical books (erroneously called Apocrypha by Protestants). These seven books were included in the 1611 KJV, but not in later KJV Bibles.

St. Jerome considered the seven Deutero-Canonical books to be NOT inspired by God, but he was commissioned by Pope Damasus to translate all 73 books into Latin. Pope Damasus considered the 7 DC books to be inspired by God. Later in 1946, after the finding of the dead-sea scrolls, it was discovered that these 7 DC books were used by the Jews in Alexandria, even in their services. This verifies that Pope Damasus was correct.
Visit the link for the rest of the article and main site is Douay-Rheims Bible. This version is also available in eSword and I do have a separate software version of NAB which has to be installed yet. Doing the image of my computer first. Still have my book form Catholic Bible which I think was NAB... it has pics in it from the Holy Land either late 70's or early 80's pub date.

On the Scripture Catholic website they have cited DEUTEROCANONICAL BOOKS IN THE NEW TESTAMENT that reference the 7 books. This link also includes info on early Church fathers.

I needed to have these questions answered for myself.

Have the NIV Bible on CD/MP3 (on my 3rd hard drive too aka storage)... Have my book form Catholic Bible but reading... used to read a lot, just need to get back into the habit. It's text is smaller though or I think it is... trying to get in the habit of reading... not as quick as I used to be in it. But that's whyI have that magnifying glass I carry. To really play the part of looking goofy. It has a light in it too.

just as long as you understand there are some real translation problems in the NIV for Catholics. Using it to listen to is ok... but beware there are translation probs with it.

Later on I can give you another link that pulls quotes for comparison. That is on my other computer.

I probably need to buy a Catholic audio Bible eventually but any purchase is way out of the budget right now... shoot, have to start earning a paycheck soon. And there's base below me now, ugh. I know, I'm not supposed to be able to hear it I guess. I have the NIV & KJV audio but no Catholic audio yet. It's easier to listen for me... sounds like it's time to get my earplugs and headphones... take some ibuprofen.

It's like after learning pretty early, several times... then again maybe it wasn't early at all... that life is short... But that's where trusting God comes in. Keep praying and give it to God, lay it down at the cross. I know this.

God bless
